Where the Girls Aren't

A couple months ago, there was a lot of talk, including several posts and discussions about how boys are falling behind girls in school.

Interesting report by the "Girls Coalition of Greater Boston," highlights challenges in girls programming and lack of access to funding. Report also cautions policymakers not succumb to current political thinking of, "girls problem solved, what about the boys?" Here's why:

While we absolutely need to make sure we address the issues surrounding boys, this report reminds us to not forget about our girls.

  • why kindling flames?
    Socrates wrote, "Education is the kindling of a flame; not the filling of a vessel." This edublog is a place for us to come together as students, to learn more about the topics that interest us, and to engage in meaningful conversation about education policy. This site is not the end of our search for knowledge, but rather the beginning. A kindled flame.
    who are we?
    We are a group of education policy students at The George Washington University who are attempting to create dialogue, discuss policy issues, and build community. We come from diverse education experiences. We are teachers, policymakers, parents, activists, and researchers. While we may come from different backgrounds and have different perspectives, we are united under a common belief in the importance of education.
